Rejection, It’s A Wonderful Thing…

My sister called me this weekend; she was quite upset, as she had not been accepted for a job she had interviewed for. She called me up for a spot of advice and as normal I didn’t give her what she expected.

“Fantastic” I said.

Now Joanne is used to me by now but even she was taken back a bit with that statement.

“John, what are you on about I really wanted that job and I got rejected”

We had a long chat and I told her what I had learned in my years of Network Marketing and why I now love REJECTION. What you have to realise is people are not rejecting you they are just not in a position to accept your proposition at this time in their lives.

We have been programmed from an early age to avoid rejection and so whenever we are faced with it we automatically think we have done something wrong. You need to change this mindset to succeed in any area of your life.

Take my sister, she thought this job was the perfect next step in her career and she had prepared hard. However when she was been interviewed something didn’t click. Now this may have nothing to do with her presentation but something else quite obscure. The bottom line is the opportunity and the timing were not right but she is now a step closer to finding that perfect match.

Some of my team speak to me and tell me stories where they have been presenting and the person has really ripped into them with questions. They have mistakenly taken this is as rejection and automatically assumed that there pitch was bad. I point out these are the exact type of people you want to attract. Someone who rips your presentation apart and fires lots of probing questions at you is not rejecting you, they are looking to find out if both you and your opportunity are real.

If you are new into Network Marketing and this kind of questioning worries you then don’t. Any good sponsor worth their salt will teach you and handle this for you in the early days. The key for you is to listen to how they handle and take good note of their posture. If they are successful they won’t shy away from the questions as if they are being rejected. You will see them be more encouraged with each one and even if they don’t have the answer you can be sure they will get it as soon as possible.

The key here is to learn to love REJECTION, as it is not really what you thought it was.

Network Marketing Success – Learn To Love The Phone…

I had a call from one of my team this morning and it took
me right back to my fledgling days of Network Marketing. It
was from Joanne and she was in a bit of a state.

"John, I have tried everything but I just cant phone these
people, is there another way? Could you phone them for me?"

I had to smile as I recognised that state of panic and
fear. I calmed her down and asked what is was she feared
the most. Now I must point out that Joanne has got off to a
great start in the business and has all her lead generation
and follow up in place. In fact she has pretty much got all
the online parts of her business sewn up but we have found
a weak point that needs to be addressed.

So I asked her out straight.

"Joanne what is it your fearful of?"

"John, don't you know! I don't want REJECTION"

Once again I was taken back to my first period in this
industry and this was a time when the Internet wasn't an
option for lead generation. Back then it was advertise
offline, work your circle of influence (and then work it
again) and follow cold calling scripts when phoning your
leads.

When I first started my enthusiasm took me through and I
called with great gusto. I got my posture right and I
called and called. Each time I got an answer I would rush
through my script making sure I didn't miss anything,
bringing them closer and closer to the sale. I got to the
end (when I was lucky) and then was presented with a big
fat NO.

After a while the thought of picking up the phone sounded
harder than picking up a block of concrete. Every bad
association I had with my cold calling was associated with
that phone and I grew to hate it. So I knew exactly how
Joanne was feeling.

You have to love the phone in this business but sometimes
you can adjust your process to make that love affair
stacked more in your favour. I just needed to remind Joanne
about this.

"Joanne, what is the purpose of the call you are so
concerned with?" I asked knowing full well what the answer
was.

"John, this person has just signed up under me and I need
to call them to introduce them to my team and explain how
to navigate around the back office. I really don't like
this part of the process so cant you do it for me". You see
we have now set up the entire process so the first call
that needs to be made is when someone calls you or joins
the business.

"Joanne, remember when you joined the business and I gave
you a call, how did you feel?"

Well of course she felt great and was really happy an
actual human being had made the effort to call her. After
all everything up to this part had been entirely online so
the human interaction was the part that made her realise
this was a business she wanted to stay involved with.

Needless to say we got through this 'most difficult call'
and Joanne has started to disassociate her fear of the
phone. Regardless of how you set your process up you need
to love the phone, as it is the difference between a
mediocre network marketing business and 7-figure income a
year type of business.

The Day My Internet Marketing Business Changed...

I have been in the Internet and Network marketing arena
for many years now and its not often a product comes along
that turns everything upside down. Although as a seasoned
Internet Marketer I understand and apply the powerful
principal of a funded proposal it is not always easy to
duplicate this principal with a Network marketing downline.
Lets take it from the top in case you are not familiar with
the term funded proposal in relation to your Internet
marketing business.

Let's strip things right back to basics and put on the
table our main objective in our Internet or Network
marketing business, we want to build a list. Now I am not
going to go into all the various methods of lead generation
as that is a subject all of its own. What I do want to
cover though is how a funded proposal works in conjunction
with your lead generation process. Quite simply a funded
proposal is a way of presenting your new leads with an
opportunity to purchase a product from you right at the
beginning of your relationship. Pretty simple right, but
what if I don't have my own product, how do I apply this
principal to my Internet/Network marketing business? You
use someone else's!

Now you may or may not be familiar with an affiliate
product if you do run an Internet marketing business. What
we are doing is promoting someone else's product and
getting paid a commission in the process. These front end
profits will help turn every $100 in advert into $200 or
more which will ensure you don't go the way of many newbies
in Internet marketing and simply run out of money. Your
lead generation program is now building a steady stream of
income at the front end so what's the next steps for our
successful Internet or network marketing business?

Next you have to start building a relationship with your
new Internet marketing leads and customers. You do this via
a good email auto responder to send regular communications
to your list to help them get to know more about you and
what you have to offer. This needs to be a consistent and
ongoing process so your leads become accustomed to the

It’s Saturday morning and its one of those fabulous winter days when the sun is shining and the air is crisp and fresh. There is a light breeze and as I sit here in my office at home it just reminds me why I love this business.

Yesterday was one of those horrible winter’s days with gale force winds and driving rain. It reminded me of the days I had to commute to work with all of the other slaves at the slave camp. Okay my job was not literally a slave camp but I think there are lots of similarities! Have a think about your job, is it providing the freedom you desire or are you just another slave…

So why am I so focussed on the weather this morning? Well apart from being English (and we are all slightly obsessed with the weather!), to be honest I am checking the temperature in Dallas, Texas for the 26th January 2007, as I will be attending a leadership convention with my organisation. They have had a bit of snow there so I will have to pack my warm clothes but its not denting my enthusiasm.

If you have never attended a Network Marketing convention before then it truly is something to behold. I don’t think I have ever found another occasion where you have so many excited, positive thinking people all in one room. The other amazing thing is the amount of friends you have made in your time in the industry who you may only be meeting for the first time!

There is also a rule of thumb that applies to your team when you attend these conventions. For every member of your team who attends the convention you can add an additional $10,000 to your annual income. Why is that? Very simple really, nearly everyone who attends a convention finally understands the power of the opportunity in their hands. Even if they are only achieving moderate success, once they have spent a few days with some of the leaders in the business they will be reinvigorated and reminded of the endless opportunity available to them.

There are going to be some great speakers again this year including the legendary Les Brown. Some of the best Network Marketer’s in the business giving it to people straight as well as a collection of the top Internet Marketer’s providing the latest tips and strategies. Three fun packed days and nights for $97, that’s what I call a bargain!

I can’t believe we are now only one week away from the Leadership convention and for all of you who are going I cant wait to meet you. I will be flying in early to attend the special leaders day so I should be fully over my jet leg by the time of the conference proper.

For those of you who were sensible enough to join the coop you will see you have a steady stream of leads coming through. This will start to pick up pace very soon as some of our bigger ads get placed.

One of the things I have been doing over the past 6 weeks is speaking with all the members who are successful in Success University so I can try and find a common denominator. Here is what I have found out so far.



  1. They are all on the calls – I know I have mentioned this before but it does seem to make a huge difference. I know from personal experience things started to move when I listened in. For those of you who have already explained your personal difficulties this isn’t for you but for everyone else try and get on the calls if you really want to start to grow your business.


  2. Have regular chats or emails with your upline. I know this from other teams as well as my own. All those team members I am in regular contact with are busy building their teams and those who don’t, well don’t. I cant add much more than that apart from to say I am here for all of you all you need to do is tell me your ready for help. I tend to use Skype as my IM so feel free to add me jod0011


  3. They have written goals and a game plan to achieve them.


  4. They take action


They seem to be the main key points I have identified so far so if any of those strike a chord then maybe you need to review what you want from your business and make the necessary adjustments.

Don’t forget we have the training calls at the weekend with your upline support team. Ned and Cheryl Rae on Saturday and Chris and Julie Chojnowski on Sunday. They are worth there weight in goal.

So we were chatting this morning and he asks me one of the
biggest and most misunderstood questions that people ask me all

Reinventing The Network Marketing Wheel…Don't!

One of the things I am constantly amazed of in my Network
Marketing career are the amount of new people who enter the
business who want to reinvent the wheel!

The entire essence of Network Marketing is the company provide
a system that is duplicable. This means all you need to do is
follow the system and with the help, advice and support from
your sponsor you will achieve success. So why then do people
insist on turning things on their head?

The conclusion I have come to is people get so excited about
joining a new business that they go out and purchase the first
lead generation programme out there. They spend their hard
earned money on the first fancy email that hits their in box.
They email or call me and tell me how they have followed the
system and bought x number of leads from company ABC.

Every time this happens I hold my head in my hands and make a
silent prayer that they have not chosen a dud. Nine times out of
ten though they come to me and say "John, what happened? I
followed the system and it didn't work" I am always very patient
when I ask how they came to choose company ABC by following the
system as I know its not in there.

A hard lesson maybe, but not a bad one to have right up front
before you really get started in your Network Marketing
business. From that point on they tend to start to listen to
someone who has done it before and more importantly has run a
series of tests to check which lead generation system works best
with our particular company.

You see excitement and enthusiasm are great things but you need
to ensure you are directing all of that energy to the right
target. You're going to struggle to achieve your goals in
Network Marketing if you apply the Shotgun method of lead
generation i.e. buy the next new thing on the block. You need to
be like a sniper, choose your target carefully (have someone
choose it with you!), set your sights, and squeeze the trigger
and FIRE!

If your new to Network Marketing or about to embark on a career
with a new company remember…follow the system and don't reinvent
the wheel (until you have money to burn on testing!)

Most Important Post Of 2007

Congratulations if you have followed my advice and come here to read this post as it is likely to be the most important post of 2007!

Let me first explain the two of the biggest reasons people do not make it in the Network Marketing business.

1. Unrealistic expectations - most people come into this business and think they can make $40,000 a month without needing to put any money into advertising. Unless you have a Search Engine Optimized website (that will probably take 6 months to set up plus several thousands to initially fund) you have to invest either time or money into advertising.

If you have no money then you must do a massive amount of FREE advertising every day. By this I mean posting to at least 5 forums every day, submitting articles every day, posting to your blog every day...you get the picture. Don't get me wrong these are all great methods and I use them but you must be consistent.

So you are going to need to invest some money to start generating the returns you want from your business.

2. The second reason people fail in this business is they run out of money!!!

Ah you say, so if that's the case John what do we do?

You invest your money wisely. First off invest in the ad coop as this maximises your exposure whilst minimises any risk to you.

Second, and this is the important part. You provide your leads with what they want up front. Let me explain.

The vast majority of people who surf the internet are looking for information about how to make money. This doesnt mean they actually want to put anything into practice they just want the information. So we need to be able to provide them with the information so they can learn about how to make money first. Once they have this how good a lead would they be if they then deceided to sign up with you? Pretty good I hear you say!

So heres the deal. Deagan Smith, our head of Internet Marketing has put together what can only be described as a Network Marketer's dream come true. By buying his $37 ebook and signing up to be an affiliate ($1 first 30 days and then $20 a month thereafter) you get a complete marketing super machine. Here's what you get...

I had 340 clicks (they clicked the link I provided)
I got 56 leads who are now in the autoresponder (these leads will now get further emails from Daegan promoting the products plus I will start sending them some about Success University)
I had 3 sales of the ebook so I earned $60 (3 x $20 affliate comission)
I had 1 affiliate sign up (I will earn $10 a month as affiliate comission)

Hopefully you can see why I am excited, I have 56 new leads in under 36 hours who cost me $0.53c each - this is peanuts! I have 3 people who have bought an ebook explaining how to make money in Network Marketing using this system. I wonder if they need a Network Marketing business?!

Guys are you getting the picture yet?! I know if I fine tune my ads a little more this will probably end up paying me to advertise!!

If You Quit Spending Money And . . .

Why do so many network marketers focus on one thing and one
thing alone?

It's really NOT just about getting people into your
business. In fact, it's this exact path of thought that is
the demise of many. Why pay $5 for a lead, then give them a
call and if they don't join your business throw it away? It
really doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Well, I guess when it comes down to it I do know why so many
network marketers have this one focus.

It's because that's all that they are taught.

The cold calling game has its place, but unless you're

provide goes under in that time. You're out of luck. Why
would anyone do that to themselves?

It's just plane wrong to teach to people if you really have
their best interests at heart and it's why I would never do
it again even it was the only choice, it's just not worth
it.

Here's what you should focus on and what I focus on, making
money today and then waiting until tomorrow to choose the
right prospects to join my business.

That way my personal risk goes down to zero in the short
term and I have cash to put back into marketing and
promotion tomorrow while I sit back and choose who I want to
work with.

Then a month later after they go through a few trials and
try a few things unsuccessfully they say . . . "Why isn't
this working?"

Then the next month when they put in half the effort they
put in their first month and nothing happens again they quit
and say they were scammed.

My question to you is . . . were they scammed?

You see, before you start any Network Marketing business you
have to do a little bit more homework than just look at the
compensation plan and the testimonials. You have to really
research what you are about to get yourself into.

What type of research do you have to do? What questions
should you ask?

Here they are:

" How long has the company been around?

" What is the product?

" Is the product unique?

" Does the product have mass appeal?

" Is the product a front runner in an emerging market?

" Can you become passionate about the product?

" Does the business have a powerful marketing system in
place?

" Who are the successful people in this business?

" What are the successful people doing to create that
success?

" Is the product something that the majority of the public
can afford?

" Am I personally financial stable enough to start a new
business?

" What type of a monthly marketing budget will I have to set
aside to be successful?

" What are the conversion statistics for the marketing
process?

" Is the business truly duplicable?

" What would be my break even point?

" Is there a way to make money quickly with this business or
is there a way that I can create a quick income in
marketing this business?

" Etc.

You see it's not just the opportunity that has to be
correct. You TOO have to be correct for the opportunity and
you have to be in a financial position to take advantage of
the opportunity at hand.

Way too many times I see people joining my business that
jump in on a hope and a dream.

They have barely enough money to pay for their monthly
membership commitment and yet they still want to know the
fastest way to grow their business for FREE.

When people get caught up in the emotion of opening the
possibility for more in their life sometimes they don't
think clearly. They think if they can just get themselves in
they will get rich.

It's not just about getting yourself in.

It's about getting yourself in and putting yourself in a
position to be able to fully maximize the opportunity at
hand.

I get asked the following WRONG question all the time.

"How long until I make money?"

It's not about how long until you make money it's about what
you have to do to make money.

The truth is you could put yourself in a profitable
situation tomorrow or today, but it would take resources and
a good deal of learning to know how to do it.

The truth is, the fast way is never the FREE way. It's
either going to take you a good deal of money to put
yourself in a profitable position or a good deal of
education and leverage, and most of the time both.

There is no luck factor.

You don't earn money until you are worthy of the income you
produce. As the great Earl Nightingale always says "You have
to be worth more than you are getting paid for your income
to grow."

This is the natural state of all things and it's not going
to change. In order for your income to grow you must grow.

Now . . .

Let me back up for a second to say that you CAN create a
large amount of success in Network Marketing for free, but
not until you know how.

If you don't have the answer to this question of how to
create a large amount of success for free now and it is a
burning desire for you learn how to do this, then get out
there and do the necessary leg work and research to get
yourself into to the position in which you can grow your
network marketing organization for FREE.

Enough of this banter . . .

If you want to have HUGE success in Network Marketing
quickly you will need to of course obtain or create a
powerful marketing system that is highly duplicable. If you
want do this on the internet here are the critical factors
that you should look for in the least:

" A high power lead capture page

" A strong follow up email system that incorporates the fear
of loss.

" A direct marketing style website that sells so you don't
have to.

Let's talk about the secret that will absolutely guarantee
that you succeed in Network Marketing.

Ready?

Well remember when I gave the example above of the typical
mindset for people entering into network marketing?

They say:

"Man ... IF I max out this plan I'll be making $40,000 a
month and I'll never have to work again! Let's give it try!"

All we have to do is change one word in this statement to
give you the little known secret to guaranteeing you network
marketing success.

Change the word "IF" to "WHEN"

Don't make it a possibility to succeed in network marketing
make it a conviction.

It's the people that see the compensation plan and do all
the research that I've noted above and then say to
themselves that it's only a matter of time until they max
out their compensation plan that truly and always without a
shadow of a doubt succeed.

Network marketing is not something that works part of the
time or if your lucky. It always works as long as you do
everything in your power to make it work.

Set a goal in your network marketing business and don't stop
until you get there and you WILL get there. I guarantee it.

How Often Do You Listen To The Calls?

Did you listen to the training calls this weekend? Do you listen to the opportunity calls in the UK or the US? Do you listen to the faculty calls or the new Leadership series calls?

If the answer is no to some, or even all, of the above then you are missing a large piece of the success jigsaw. I can tell you this, not because its what the leaders say and I am repeating them, but because when I started I didn’t listen either!

That’s right, when I first started I may have listened to one or two calls and then decided that I knew what was in them now so why carry on listening. You may have heard the phrase staying close to the campfire. Well to be honest when I started I just thought that was just good marketing spin and I didn’t need that.

When I started my business it started well and I thought, there you go I knew I could do just fine without listening in on all the calls. Sure enough I got to counsellor with no trouble at all and went on to be one of the Top 10 recruiters and things were great. Then something strange happened, when I tried to help my team to duplicate my success nothing worked. I couldn’t understand what was wrong. I was pulling my hair out, asking my upline support team ‘what more can I do?’

It was at this point they said ‘John, we don’t see you on the calls much, why is that?’ Well I had no answer so from that point forward I made a commitment to be on as many calls as possible from then on in. Then something strange started to happen, not obvious at the time but with the benefit of hindsight it is very clear.

I started to actually engage with other people in Success University outside of my team. I was asked to provide testimonies on both the UK and US calls. I was also invited to join the UK Leadership Team and before I knew it I was actually hosting the calls. However more important than all of that was that when I was listening into a call I had made some friends and we started to Instant Messaging each other via Skype during the call.

I don’t think any of us actually realised how powerful a support system this was going to be. Think about it, when you start this business you’re on your own, you have your upline support team and anyone you come into contact with when your prospecting. Apart from opportunity meetings and conferences it can get a little lonely sometimes.

Imagine the difference when you know that when you call into an opportunity call there will be one of your friends and support team there with you. This has made a massive difference for me personally as I am around like-minded people every day. In addition, we had two new people join in our conversations who have now both become counsellors. The interesting thing was I talking to them both separately last night and they said that if it hadn’t been for the help and encouragement they got on these chats there were times they may have walked away.

I haven’t even mentioned the actual calls yet either! Ned Rae took time out of a big conference he was attending with the likes of Jim Rohn to still make the training call. He said simply too many people relied on the call for him to cancel it. Talk about putting himself out for everyone! Have a think about the reasons you cant make the call and compare it to Ned’s commitment to you.

Chris and Julie’s call was another made by taking time away from the same conference. They had been truly inspired by their attendance and shared some of the magical thoughts they had come away with. I have to say with true sincerity that during that call I had an amazing ‘AHA’ moment. It blew my head away, I was so excited I shared it with the friends I was chatting on Skype with, I shared it with Chris and Julie and it has totally focussed my way forward in life not just with Success university.

The point is guys how close to the campfire are you. What is preventing you from listening into some of the calls? What do you want out of your business?
